The train run over the original L&NRy tracks, a common-carrier railroad that was owned by the Connor Land & Lumber Company. In 1983 the Laona & Northern ceased operations as a freight hauling common carrier and the track from Camp 5 to Laona Junction was abandoned, along with the mill trackage in town. The Camp 5 Museum Foundation was established to run the museum and the steam train.
