WebMages can get into farming much quicker than Pallys can. Paladins require way more time and effort to be effective farming classes. Also mages are much more sort-after in raids due to their DPS being insane pretty much consistently throughout vanilla and TBC, Paladins are just a bit meh in vanilla, jack of all trades but absolutely masters of none.
